Herniated Disc Symptoms

This causes spinal compression. Symptoms can include numbness down the leg; pain in your back, neck or shoulder and couching or sitting makes the back pain worse. A degenerative disc is the shrinking of the discs causing the vertebras to rub together.
Other symptoms are muscle ache and having a problem standing straight. Pain can be due to a very serious problem and if you notice bladder problems, have a fever or have lost a lot of weight recently along with the pain, go and see your doctor to find out what can be done for you and if back pain relief is possible.

Effective Back Pain Treatments
Spinal compression can be treated with spinal decompression therapy. This is done with the use of a traction machine. You lie on your stomach on a massage table and straps are put around your chest and lower back. The straps are hooked up to a machine that pulls your spine to basically stretch it out to decompress it. Depending on how compressed your spine is, will determine how many treatments you will need. Usually you go for one or two treatments per week and doing exercises at home three times daily, will start to give you back pain relief.
Surgery for spinal compression may be necessary to achieve back pain pain relief. There are risks involved with this surgery that are infection, blood clots, or nerve damage. The success rate is in the 80 – 90% range. All depending on what type of spinal problems you have will depend on the type of surgery performed. Diskectomy is to remove part of the disc to relieve pressure on the nerve roots for back pain relief. Corpectomy would be performed to remove an entire disc and the body of the vertebrae. To remove bone spurs osteophyte removal is done.

Medications taken for back pain relief may be bought over the counter or prescribed by a doctor. Anti-inflammatory medications work really well as they reduce swelling. Narcotic pain relievers should not be used long term as they are very addictive. While taking any medications alcohol should be avoided at all times.
